Sedation & Anesthesia
for Pediatric Dentistry
Providing the Safest Care
At Pediatric Dental Sedation of Oklahoma, our mission is to provide safe, comfortable, and comprehensive dental care for children—especially those with dental anxiety or complex treatment needs.
With over 25 years of combined experience, Dr. David T. Evans and Dr. Stephen T. Gray have performed tens of thousands of in-office and operating room sedation procedures, ensuring children receive the highest standard of pediatric dental care.
Certified Specialists
Both providers maintain current training in the latest sedation science, hold permits in Pediatric Sedation, and are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Every patient is closely monitored from the onset of sedation until meeting standardized discharge criteria, while also ensuring the comfort and confidence of parents or caregivers.
Sedation & Anesthesia Options
After a thorough consultation, including a visual and radiographic exam, our team will recommend the sedation option best suited to your child's needs:
Light / Minimal Sedation
(Nitrous Oxide)
- Patients remain awake but relaxed
- Typically uses Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) with Local Anesthetic
- Best for mild anxiety or shorter procedures, though many children referred to our office require deeper sedation

Moderate Sedation
(Conscious Sedation)
- Patients are awake and able to respond to verbal commands
- Often administered with an oral sedative, combined with Nitrous Oxide and Local Anesthetic
- Suitable for shorter procedures or patients with some dental anxiety but higher cooperation ability
- Administered by the pediatric dentist and trained staff
- Insurance: Coverage varies
Deep Sedation
(Sleep Dentistry)
- Patients are significantly sedated with reduced awareness of dental pain and drug-induced amnesia
- This is performed in our office by qualified and experienced anesthesia providers
- Often preceded by oral sedation in the office to enhance comfort and reduce anxiety
- Same-day discharge (ambulatory procedure)
- Insurance: Not covered by dental insurance. Coverage varies for medical insurance coverage.
General Anesthesia
(Sleep Dentistry)
- Patients are fully asleep for the procedure
- Performed in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center (ASC)
- Drs. Evans and Gray are credentialed at multiple Oklahoma City facilities and perform the dental surgery themselves
- Anesthesia is provided by the hospital or ASC team
